Student Summer Camp Report 2010
 

The First phase of the Students summer Camp (main camp) held from 6th May to 20th May for 15 days. Follow-up camp will be conducted in the quarterly holidays i. e. September 2010 for 7 days. Before commencing the summer camp (main), letters were sent to the surrounding schools and the concerned school headmasters informed about the details of the summer camp. Children were identified to select the camp through school headmasters, village panchayat presidents, local social interest activists and local body government officials. The selection criteria was those who are coming from a very poor family, those who are living in the rural unhealthy environment, children those who are lost their parents, those who are uncared and who are showing in interest and to become an intelligent student through study well in the schools and those who are entering in the 10std class with the age group of 14 - 15. Then the venue and the dates were fixed for the camp.

A camp team has been formed to take care the daily activities cleaning the camp campus, preparing food items, overseeing the children and their conducts in the surroundings, take care of the children health and their performances. Mrs. Mahalakshmi was the camp coordinator and Mr. Prabu, Mr. Pandian, Mr. Vignesh, Mrs. Sahakila, Mrs. Fathima, Mrs. Rakkini are the team members. Mr. Nagarajan was the cook. Time table and Menu list also prepared to do the day to day scheduled activities.

The inaugural function of the summer camp program took place on 06th May 2010, 3.00 PM at Masabiel English Medium School, Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine campus, Chetpet. A number of 63 Children (41 boys and 22) were attended the camp and participated in all 15 days with very interest enthuastic and reading and writing materials were distributed to all the children.

Mr. M. Manavalan, President, SDD welcomed the gathering and delivered a brief note about the purpose of the camp and given the instruction for implementing the camp programme. Mr. Radhakrishnan ( English Teacher), Mr. Vailankannan ( Maths Teacher), Mr. Sampath (Social Science teacher) Mr. T. S. Ramadass (Social awareness cum Leadership teacher), Mr. Bellard (Physical Education Teacher) were participated in the inaugural function.

Mrs. R. Vasantha, Additional Educational Officer, Chetpet Panchayat Union gave the key note address and she motivated the children towards the importance of the education and its impact in every one's life. She also explained her childhood problem to have an education in their days. Mr. Venkitesan, Chetpet Merchants Association, Mrs. M. Mahalakshmi, Headmistress, Panchayat Union Primary School, Kizhakkumedu, Mr. Rajendran , Social activist, Mr. Chandrasekaran, Parents & Teachers Association member, Mr. Dasaradhan Member, Merchants Association, Chetpet are some of the special guests who were attended the function.

Classes were taken by resource persons like Mr. B. Selvarajan, Correspondent, Dhivya Group of Educational Institutions, Mr. Elumalai & Mr. Chandran from Kalanjium Trust from Chennai, Dr. Senthil & Mr. Anbu, Health supervisor from Government Primary Health Centre, Chetpet, Mrs. Kousalya, Women Human Rights Activist, from TVMSSS, Mr. Kalaiarasan , Human Rights activist.

A syllabus has been framed with suitable time table for every day. Food and accommodation provided 3 times every day. Subjects like Maths, English, social science, social awareness cum leadership, Child rights, human rights, physical education etc. taken in all 15 days. Cultural programmes, games, drawing, singing, dancing, drama, street play etc., are the extra curricular activities in the camp. Motivation and counseling also partly syllabus of the the children. Children were maintained as per the daily time table and closely watched their activities and performance. Tests were conducted in the maths and English subjects to assess their capacity and skills.

The valedictory function was held on 19th evening and Mr. Ethiroli Manian, MLA was participated in the function as chief guest and distributed prizes and certificates to the children who performed in best manner in the duration of the camp. Cultural programmes were performed by the children. Games were conducted and prizes were distributed to the winners. Parents from various villages and some public. Volunteers are also participated in the valedictory function. The children were informed that the follow-up camp will be conducted in the month of September 2010 while the quarterly exam holidays and the exposure tour will be organized at the time to make a visit probably to Pondicherry.
